The land for The Gerry Maloney Nature Area, along with financing for development, was donated to the City of Madison in 2005 By John Maloney, in memory of his late wife, Gerry.
This area will be opened to the public in 2009. The development of this area is in progress. Many trees, flowers, and native grasses have been planted. A quarter acre pond, complete with a windmill for aeration, has been installed. A 40 foot bridge has been installed over the Memorial Creek. A trail-head gazebo with display cases and benches has been installed for public information. We will be planning a grand-opening ceremony in 2009 after vegetation is sufficient for foot traffic.
