National Night Out is a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). This is the 31st year of the event. The Madison Police Department will be sponsoring the local event on Tuesday, August 5 at West Side (aquatics center) Park beginning at 5:00 PM. The public is invited to attend this free night of entertainment along with a community picnic (free hot dog, chips, beans, cookie and a drink). Entertainment from Kelli Wollmann - Anthem, Larry Green and Rocky Mountain Boys will begin at 6:00 PM. There will also be a bounce around inflatable sponsored by Kiwanis International and Madison Police Department.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for and participation in, local anticrime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. More than 37.5 million people participated in last year’s event nationwide.
