Lake Madison Recreational Trail Ribbon Cutting

Flynn Field Trailhead

The Recreational Trail Advisory Committee has scheduled a dedication ceremony for the newly-completed Lake Madison Trail at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Flynn Field trailhead. A variety of officials who were instrumental in the development of the trail -- along with the public -- are invited to attend.

Following the chamber ribbon cutting, the attendees will be invited to use their bikes, walking shoes, rollerblades and wheelchairs to take part in the first Lake Madison Trail Bike-Hike-Roll.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled the following day, on Thursday, Oct. 18.

The 4.2-mile trail is the newest addition to the City of Madison’s recreational amenities. From Flynn Field, the 10-foot-wide asphalt path meanders south on Egan Avenue and east along Highway 34 and other easements to the Johnson’s Point day-use area at Lake Madison.

The round-trip will total 8.4 miles and be a good workout for many youngsters and adult fitness enthusiasts. The trail is designed for walking, jogging, cycling, rollerblading and electric wheelchairs.

This cooperative trail project is funded through federal, state and local partners.
