Cost: To renovate the current pool with no new pool amenities, cost was estimated in 2006 at $1.3 million. Cost excludes pool infrastructure. Lifespan of the renovated pool is 25-30 years.

Cost of the proposed new pool that includes modernized pool features, new bathhouse, mechanical house, and public bathrooms for park is $3.5 million. Lifespan of a new pool is 45–55 years.

To build a pool with the same dimensions and pool amenities of the current outdoor pool, the cost is $2.8 million.

Statistics: Current pool is over 50 years old and has several structural, piping, and equipment issues. There is no other outdoor pool in Madison to replace the current pool.

The new pool is 7,500 square feet in size. 6,620 square feet is considered shallow water and 880 square feet of deep water. The bather capacity is 464 bathers at any given point.

New pool is projected to average 430 bathers per day, with 650 bathers on busy days and 200 bathers on slow days. Current pool averages 130 bathers per day, with 250 on a busy day and 60 on slow days.

Funding: General obligation bonds used to fund the pool. Funding for bonds come from an increase in property tax of $1.60 per $1,000 valuation.

The conservative estimated cost of a family of four to make three trips to an aquatics facility outside of Madison with similar pool features is estimated at $156 or $52 per trip. Per trip costs: $15 user fee, $25 for eatery, $12 for gas and travel.
