The City of Madison has scheduled their annual city-wide cleanup for May 3-9, 2008. The South Dakota National Guard Company B of the 153rd Engineering Battalion based out of Madison will be assisting city crews with the cleanup again this year as part of their normal guard drill weekend. The City of Madison sincerely appreciates this community service and offers thanks to Company B.
The city will be divided into four sections with Egan Avenue and North 2nd/3rd Street being the dividing streets. Collection will begin Saturday in the NE section, Sunday in the SE section, Monday in the SW section and Tuesday in the NW section.
Any items not picked up in a section on the day scheduled will be collected the next day. Once a section has been completed, no further pickup in that section will be done. Your cooperation in getting items out curbside before the day of your scheduled pickup is appreciated, but we ask that you do not set anything out 48 hours before your scheduled pickup date.
Items that will not be picked up include appliances, batteries, paint, leaves, trees/branches, hazardous materials or household garbage or recyclables. Electronic devices such as televisions, radios, CD players, VCRs, etc. will not be collected.
To help control mosquitoes, passenger car/truck tires will be picked up during city-wide cleanup. Only eight tires per household maximum. Tires must be removed from the rim.
