In honor of this day, DSU plans to hold two events for the Dakota 38. On Saturday, December 7, a screening of the documentary film Dakota 38 by Smooth Feather Productions will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Mundt Foundation and Archives (lower level of the Karl E. Mundt Library and Learning Commons).
Special guests Perry Little, Dakota 38 Eagle Staff Carrier, and John Beheler, the Executive Director of Dakota Indian Foundation, will be on hand to answer questions and provide insights on the history of the Dakota 38 and the ride itself.
A donation of food will also be gathered for the Dakota 38 rider’s needs including energy bars, granola, “Tanka” products, beef jerky, Gatorade-type drinks, hot cocoa mix and other healthy options.
On Saturday, December 14, DSU and host Dr. David Borofsky, President, welcome the Dakota 38 + 2 riders and guests for a community gathering and program at 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Trojan Center Underground. The community is invited to a meet and greet with the riders during this time with a buffet provided.
Yankton Sioux Lakota artist Jerry Fogg will be there to share his work and provide insight in regards to the Dakota 38 and the impact it has on his work.
Both events are free and open to the public.
