SOUTH DAKOTA BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME
FOREVER BASKETBALL
Join Us!
It’s official! The South Dakota Boys/Girls High School Basketball Hall of Fame will
soon have its Class of 2010. The SDBGHSBBHOF will hold its inaugural induction ceremony
on Saturday, March 27 at the Dakota Prairie Playhouse in Madison, South Dakota.
The festivities will begin at 1:30 p.m.
The principle of the Hall of Fame is two-fold. First, it will chronicle, record,
and preserve the history of outstanding basketball players, teams, and contributors
from across the State of South Dakota. The game of basketball has been enjoyed by
so many South Dakotans, and we feel we must never lose the history and intrigue
of the characters involved. Secondly, the Hall of Fame seeks to select males and
females who have been outstanding on the hardwood that will, someday, be considered
legends of the game. Their names and accomplishments will be etched into plaques
or walls for future generations to witness.
The Hall of Fame office is located in Madison, South Dakota. There is a Board of
nine members which includes Wayne Thue from Hayti, Gene Furness from Clark, Leon
Tobin from Aberdeen, Bob Swanhorst from Sioux Falls, and Myron Moen, Jim Cordts,
Rich Husman, Al Wieman, and Dan Holsworth, all from Madison. Attractions at the
Hall of Fame will include plaques and photos of the most exceptional boys and girls
to have ever played the game. There will be an interactive media display which depicts
the history of those players and contributors to basketball. Display cases will
exhibit basketball memorabilia from across the state. An old bus displays the names
of over 200 players, coaches, referees, and the undefeated teams from the past.
We hope will be able to join us in Madison to welcome the Class of 2010 inductees
and visit the Hall of Fame.
