Cyber Competition in March

Dakota State University will host the North Central Regional Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition March 6th and 7th on the D-S-U campus in Madison.

Dakota State is one of only eight campuses in the nation to host such an event. This is the first time D-S-U has hosted the competition. Instructor Pat Engebretson, in the College of Business and Information Systems is the North Central Regional Director.

He says the competition allows teams of full-time college students to apply their information assurance and information technology education in a competitive environment. The teams will be given an operational network from a fictional business complete with data, email, website and users.

Engebretson says each team will be required to correct problems on their network, perform business functions and defend their network from cyber attackers.

Teams will be scored on performance and the winning team will advance to the National competition in San Antonio in April 2009.

Student teams from Montana Tech, University of Wyoming, University of South Dakota, the University of Sioux Falls and Dakota State will participate.
