SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Democratic state Rep. Gerald Lange of Madison wants the state to spend $25,000 to promote South Dakota tourism in Mexico.
The House Appropriations Committee will consider Lange's bill, HB1130.
Lange sides with Republican Gov. Mike Rounds in considering tourism spending an investment. While proposing cuts in many state programs,
Rounds does not want to cut the more than $11 million the state spends to attract visitors.
Democratic Senate Leader Scott Heidepriem of Sioux Falls says Rounds has it backwards. He says the governor considers spending on tourism an investment but considers education spending a cost.
