State Emergency Mangement Director Urges Car Survival Kits

Winter is fast approaching, and Director of the South Dakota Office of Emergency Management Kristi Turman is urging families to get a winter car survival kit packed. Turman says keeping a kit in your car could be the matter of life or death.

Turman says calling ahead to your destination and letting them know your approximate time of arrival, and a few other simple tips can save your life.

According to Turman, even though cell phones are very useful, they shouldnt be our only lifeline.

Turman says to avoid the cost of a winter car survival kit all falling on the same week, adding an item or two a week can relieve some of the stress on your pocketbook.
