Legislature hits crunch time on bills

AP-SD--XGR Crunch Time,0138

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - In Pierre, legislative leaders say they're in good shape to meet tomorrow's deadline for all bills to receive action in the chamber in which the legislations were filed.

House Majority Leader Bob Faehn of Watertown says his chamber could face a couple of long days to meet what's called the crossover deadline.

Faehn says he considered working longer on Friday afternoon to clear at least some of the calendar and ease this week's load. He changed his mind because of a winter storm. Senate President Pro-Tem Bob Gray of Pierre says the Senate should easily meet the bill deadline.

Faehn says House members introduced 301 bills this session; 20 fewer than last year. Senators introduced 203 bills, the same number as last year.
