Remember Fallen Officers

This is Law Enforcement Week and several activities are planned in the state and nationally.

Sioux Falls Police Detective Tom Lien is the president of the South Dakota State Fraternal Order of Police.

He says Friday is "Peace Officer Memorial Day," a day to remember officers who died in the line of duty.

The list of fallen officers for 2009 includes former Lake County Sheriff's Deputy Chad Mechels, who was shot to death while on duty as a Turner County deputy on the morning of March 15th.

Lien says the FOP Auxiliary has been tying blue ribbons onto police car antennas to call attention to Law Enforcement Week.
