New Ordinance to Clarify Alcohol Consumption

The Madison City Commission has directed City Attorney David Jencks to draft an ordinance dealing with consumption of alcohol in public places in Madison.
Jencks says the idea is to create a clear administrative process for getting permission to consume alcohol in Madison's public places.
As discussed by the Commission Monday evening, alcohol use permits would be possible for city property, for sheltered areas except Westside Park for the three months the Aquatic Center is open.
As discussed permit applications would need the signatures of the police chief and the public safety commissioner for approval.
Jencks says he also plans to include an appeal process for the occasions when applications are denied.
