Be Careful on the Phone

South Dakotans need to be careful when talking with businesses on the telephone.

Delaine Smith of the South Dakota Attorney Generals Office says the main rule to follow is don't release your social security or credit card numbers to anyone over the phone, unless you have called the business.

Smith says many telephone solicitors are calling to get those numbers as part of a fraudulent scheme to steal using those numbers.

Smith says the Consumer Protection part of the attorney general's Office is constantly dealing with a number of fraudulent schemes against consumers.
