City Commission Meets Today
Posted on Monday, July 20, 2009
The Madison City Commission will review a request made by Kari Hein of Madison to reduce the speed limit on N. Catherine Ave. during its meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
Hein, a resident at 111 N. Catherine Ave., has written the commissioners asking that the city reduce the speed limit on the avenue near the Madison Aquatics Center to 10 or 15 mph. Hein said she is concerned about the safety of her 6-year-old son and other children due to increased traffic in the neighborhood. According to Hein, vehicles are traveling at speeds as high as 30 mph past her home and near the outdoor swimming pool at Westside Park.
In addition, she asked if the city would install a new driveway on the east side of the park's parking lot to reduce traffic along Catherine Ave.
Hein also submitted signatures from 15 other people with her letter.
In other business, the city commissioners will consider:
-Approving a conditional-use permit for Donna Otto to install a mobile home at lot No. 6 in Russell's Mobile Home Court, 304 S. Lincoln Ave.
-Approving a variance for Craig and Valerie Manthey to construct a two-car garage at 716 N. Catherine Ave.
-Discussing making a inflation-indexed payment to the Lewis & Clark Regional Water System to help pay for construction costs.
-Declaring a bulletproof vest as surplus property.
-Reviewing a waiver request from Habitat for Humanity for a building permit for the organization's next home in the William's Addition.
-Approving plats for lots 10 and 12 in Block 3 of McDonald's 23rd Addition.
The city commissioners will also meet at noon on Monday to tour the municipal wastewater treatment plant.
