Madison City Commission Meets Tonight
Posted on Monday, July 27, 2009
The Madison City Commission will hear the second reading of a new ordinance that will allow bars and other establishments that sell alcohol to stay open until 2 a.m. during its meeting at 5 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
The city commissioners have scheduled their regular meeting 30 minutes earlier than usual in order to hold a session reviewing Madison's 2010 budget.
After the second reading of the 2 a.m. ordinance, the commissioners can vote to approve the later closing time for bars and restaurants in the community.
The commissioners will also hear the second reading of an ordinance that updates Madison's floodplain regulations. The new regulations are needed because the Federal Emergency Management Agency has produced a new floodplain map showing revised boundaries for the community's 100-year floodplain.
In other business, the commissioners will:
-Acknowledge a variance request from Jerae and Kendra Wire for a 5-foot, 6-inch sideyard setback needed to build a garage addition at 939 Maplewood Dr.
-Review a request from Dairy Queen in Madison to close Harth Ave. on Aug. 13 to accommodate customers participating in Miracle Treat Day.
-Discuss a request from the Lake Area Improvement Corp. to share in paying for a turning-lane construction project on SD-34.
-Review a survey about safety improvements at municipal facilities that was conducted by Safety Benefits Inc.
-Authorize the mayor to sign a change order for the aquatic center construction project.
-Discuss setting the bid opening date for the SD-19 recreation trail construction project.
-Authorize the mayor to sign a permit to occupy a right of way that was submitted by the East River Electric Power Cooperative.
