Senator John Thune says the Senate Agriculture Committee is tackling the nuts and bolts of a new farm bill and that things are going smoothly so far.
Thune says some of the amendments he has offered are being discussed in the committee and that he hopes they will remain in the final version. Thune offered several amendments to the bill.
The South Dakota Republican says he hopes the bill will make it through the committee Wednesday and get a vote on the Senate floor next week.
Thune says if it's signed by the president yet this year, the new farm bill will bring certainty to farmers and ranchers planning their activities for next spring.
