Commission Extends Sidewalk Deadline

Area homeowners who were required to install sidewalks will get an extension on their deadline. The Madison City Commission extended the original August first deadline to October first during last night's regular meeting.

Twenty-four homeowners were required to install sidewalks on their properties. Of that twenty-four, eleven had completed the installation while one requested an assessment from the City. City Engineer Chad Comes says of the remaining twelve, five are currently in the process of installing sidewalks, but have been delayed.

The remaining landowners have also indicated that they will begin work soon on installing sidewalks.

In other action, the Commission authorized Mayor Gene Hexom to sign a letter requesting an increase in the distribution percentage for the $500,000 grant for the consolidated water facilities plant. The commission also authorized the mayor to sign a Right of Way permit for SDN Communications for installing conduit between Integra Plastics' main plant and offices on Washington Avenue.
