Monday night the Madison City Commission acknowledged the budget request from the Lake County Improvement Association. Executive Director Dwaine Chapel presented the request for $240,000 for the upcoming year.
In his remarks to the Commission, Chapel says the LAIC has been instrumental in helping over 40 area businesses. Other projects that the Corporation has participated in include research on the economic impact of the Highway 34 expansion, as well as development of the industrial park located on the southeast side of Madison.
Chapel says the economic impact has been significant, including the direct creation of 249 jobs over the past two years, adding $9,000,000 to the area's payroll.
In the funding request, $140,000 would go towards the operating expenses for the LAIC, while $100,000 would go toward the "Forward Madison" campaign. The Commission also heard several budget requests from various city departments, including the Library and the Fire Department.
