Lake County to Act on Flood Plan Maps

The Lake County Commission met in regular session Tuesday morning, with a number of issues on the agenda. The Commission Approved advertisement to The Supplement Building Fund for the 2008 sidewalk project, and approved a request of $25,000 to the Lake Area Improvement Cooperation. That action came one day after the Madison City Commission acknowledged a budget request of $240,000 from the LAIC. County Commissioner Dan Bohl said Lake County should probably give even more, considering the impact the LAIC has had in job creation in the County.

The Commission also acknowledged recite of a certified letter from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The letter indicated that County flood maps must be update by September 2nd of this year to avoid suspension by FEMA. Suspension would mean that, among other things, no flood insurance could be issued, or renewed in Lake County after September 2nd. The County plans to have their maps updated before that date. A first reading of a new flood plain ordinance will be held on August 18th, with a second reading on September 1st.

In other action Tuesday the Commission approved changes to the Revised Lake Access Lease Agreement for the public access area being built on Lake Madison.
