Heartland Consumer Power District has selected three finalists in Colman for an Extreme Energy Makeover.
One of the finalists will go on to win the grand prize $25000 home energy makeover.
Thirty-one homeowners submitted applications.
Heartland staff looked at the age of the home, the age of appliances, the age of the HVAC system, number of rooms, square footage, number of occupants and the past years electric and heating bills to narrow the field to three finalists.
Heartlands Director of Energy Programs Ann Hyland says Interlakes Community Action Partnership will perform energy audits on the three homes and will choose the winning home based on the results.
Hyland says the audits will be conducted today and Wednesday.
Rod and Kari Schmidt reside in a two-story home built in the early 1900s.
Sheila Buhr lives in a two-story home built in the 1800s.
Jennifer and Terry Thompsons ranch-style home was built in 1992 and has all of the original energy systems.
Heartland provides low-cost, reliable power, energy services and community development programs to Colman as well as communities and state agencies in South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa.
