DSU Impact....$41.9 Million

Dakota State University has an annual economic impact of 41.9-million dollars on the community of Madison and Lake County.

That is the assessment of a recent economic impact study supported by the Lake Area Improvement Corporation commissioned by the Rural Learning Center and conducted by researchers from the National Center for Rural Health Works at Oklahoma State University.

DSU President Doug Knowlton says the study was done as part of a lead-in to DSU's Capital Campaign.

The study also found that Dakota State University was directly involved in creating 559 jobs in Lake County.

Dakota State is Madison's largest employer, spending 29.7-million dollars in operating expenditures in fiscal year 2009, including salaries, wages and benefits.

The 41.9-million dollar impact was determined by applying a higher education multiplier of 1.41 to DSUs 2009 operating expenditures of 29.7-million dollars.
