Head of SD Farmers Union Please With Farm Bill

The head of the South Dakota Farmers Union is pleased, for the most part, with the farm bill that passed out of the Senate Ag Committee yesterday.

Doug Sombke, who was busy harvesting, says while he like most of the bill, he is concerned with the A.C.R., or average crop revenue provision.

Sombke was pleased that the Senate version included a competition title in the farm bill that has a ban on packer ownership of livestock.

Sombke says he is disappointed that captive supply was left out of the competition title. He says he was a bit surprised that country of origin labeling was kept as part of the new legislation.
