A new grant is helping The Madison Community Hospital expand educational opportunities for area students. The South Dakota Healthcare Workforce Partnership Fund has awarded its second year of grants. Five health facilities and four education agencies will share over $80,000 in grants to support workforce projects ranging from on-line education centers to camps that allow high school students to explore health careers.
The Madison Community Hospital will receive a $10,000 grant to develop and implement a hybrid health-sciences program. Students would earn twelve semester credits from Lake Area Technical Institute and two high school credits. Classes would be held at Madison Community Hospital.
Halley Lee is Manager of the South Dakota Healthcare Workforce Center for the Department of Health. She says South Dakota faces critical needs for workers across the health care industry. The partnership fund was created to provide some support for local efforts to promote health careers and to recruit and retain healthcare workers.
Financial support for The South Dakota Healthcare Workforce Partnership Fund was provided by Avera Health, Sanford Health, St. Mary's Foundation and St. Mary's Healthcare Center.
