Local Churchs Reacting to ELCA Vote

Local Lutheran Church congregations are dealing with the fallout of The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's vote, to accept sexually actively gay ministers. That vote took place last Friday in Minneapolis.

Trinity Lutheran Church, and St. John's Lutheran Church in Madison, are both members of the ELCA. Pastor Daryl Schubert of St. John's says the ELCA resolution is a very open ended document.

Pastor Dirk Hagmaier of Trinity Lutheran Church says what's important in the resolution is that local congregations are left with final authority. Trinity's Co-Pastor, Constanze Hagmaier, said the issue was addressed at the church on Sunday, and that many parishioners appreciated the way the issue was approached.

Pastor Daryl of St. John's said the issue was not addressed at worship last Sunday because Associate Pastor Elizabeth Hoium, who attended the Church wide assembly in Minneapolis, was not in Madison last Sunday. Pastor Hoium will address the congregation at services this Sunday. St. John's service can be heard Sunday morning at 10:30, on AM 1390 KJAM.
