ICAP Receives Loan From USDA

The Interlakes Community Action Partnership, headquartered in Madison, is receiving over $300,000 from the Department of Agricultural. That announcement was made yesterday by U.S. Senator Tim Johnson.
The non-profit Interlakes Community Action Partnership, or ICAP, assists low-income households in East Central South Dakota. The loan, which comes from the Department of Agriculture's Mutual Self-Help Housing Loan Program, totals just over $329,000. The money will be used to aide 15 South Dakota families construct homes of their own over a two-year period.
Senator Johnson says the grant will provide important assistance for South Dakota families hurt by economic hardships, adding that the funding will not only improve housing conditions across the state, but also give hope to those hit hardest by the nations economic downturn.
Families who receive funds from the loan program are required to assist in the building of their houses while federal loans assist in the purchasing and supplying of building materials.
Besides housing services, ICAP also provides public transportation; Children, Senior, and Family services; as well as basic need's programs in 14 counties.
