Posted on Friday, October 26, 2007
Madison and Chester Fire Departments were both dispatched to 24354 South Dakota Highway 19, one half mile north of the county line south on 19 to a house filled with smoke. Firemen discovered that a dehumidifier had failed and combusted. Madison Fire Chief Jerry Johnson says the home was smoked out, and some furniture was destroyed along with a tote full of clothes that was sitting near the dehumidifier. Johnson was unable to give a damage estimate. The call was received at 7:39PM, crews headed back to their stations around 8:20 last night.
