City Commission Worried About Water Supply

The Madison City Commission feels the city water supply may be in danger. At Monday's meeting the Commission discussed a conditional use permit request made to Lake County for a salvage yard. The proposed salvage yard would be in close proximity to the City's aquifer. City Engineer Chad Comes and Director of Public Works Heath VonEye, expressed their opposition to the permit. Comes said there are concerns that the City's water supply could become contaminated by run off from the salvage yard. Comes added that the details of the plan were not clear. The Commission approved the sending of a letter to the Lake County Planning Commission, and Lake County Commission, expressing the City's concerns. The County Planning Commission will take up a first hearing on the conditional use permit at 8:20am this Wednesday.

Also Monday the Commission acknowledged the 2008 Auditor's Report. The report showed that the City had total revenue from all sources of 15,562,879 dollars. And total expenses of 14,143,951 dollars for an increase in net assets of 1,562,879. The report also shows that the City has nearly reached it's legal capacity to issue more debt. The Commission did not take up the 1st reading of Ordinance 1484, regarding public urination. the commission wanted to take some time to change the original wording of the proposed ordinance. That new wording will have it's first reading next weeks meeting.
