County Commission Avoids FEMA Suspension

Lake County residents are still able to buy flood insurance today, thanks to yesterday's action by the Lake County Commission. The Commission approved ordinance 09-48, an ordinance establishing flood damage prevention. In August the Commission acknowledged recite of a certified letter from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. That letter indicated that County flood maps must have been updated by Today to avoid suspension by FEMA. Suspension would mean that, among other things, no flood insurance could be issued, or renewed in Lake County after September 2nd.

A first reading of a new flood plain ordinance was held on August 18th, with the second reading and approval of the ordinance yesterday, in time to avoid suspension.

Also a Tuesday's meeting Jerome Lammers, representing the Chester Sanitary District, informed Commissioners that the District is planning an annexation. Several land owners would be annexed into the District. A number of those are already receiving and paying for water from the Chester Sanitary District, but are not included in the Districts maps.

A public hearing on the annexation will be held Monday September 14th.

Finally, the Commission approved the hiring of three part-timers for the 911 dispatch center, approved making Community Counseling Services the gate keeper for the County Detox Contract, and heard a monthly report from States Attorney Ken Meyer.
