Howard Groundbreaking Draws Big Crowds, Big Money

Many thanks and at least one big surprise yesterday at a Groundbreaking Celebration in Howard for the Maroney Rural Learning Center. The groundbreaking took place at the site of the new building on the corner of Main and Farmer's Avenue. Many speakers; including Kevin Walker, President and CEO of the Northwest Area Foundation and Bob Sutton President of the South Dakota Community Foundation, gave their thanks and congratulations.

One speaker even delivered a little surprise. Pam Flaherty, President and CEO of Citi Foundation, said it was only proper to bring a gift as a guest. So she brought with her a donation of $250,000 dollars to the Rural Learning Center.

Last month voters in Howard approved the expansion of the Rural Learning Center. To accomplish the expansion portions of an alley and Farmer's Avenue had to be vacated. Voters overwhelmingly voted in favor of the expansion.
