Posted on Monday, September 21, 2009
The Madison City Commission will hold the second reading for the 2010 municipal budget and consider its approval during the commissioners' meeting at 5:30PM today.
City officials have proposed an $18.4 million budget for next year. The budget will be supported by $11.45 million in revenue from user fees collected from services such as water, sewer and electricity. Sales tax revenue is expected to provide $4.8 million for Madison's budget. The city plans to receive $1.62 million in property taxes and state revenue sources, and a remaining $526,000 from other sources.
The city will ask the Lake County auditor to assess $1.77 million in property taxes with $355,000 from that total dedicated to funding general obligation bonds from 2007.
The commissioners will:
-
Hear the second reading of an ordinance prohibiting public urination or defecation
-
Review a new ordinance that establishes the rules for using city-issued credit cards and electronic payments
-
Discuss a lease agreement with James and Rose Marie Casanova of Madison for a city lot on N.W. 9th St.
-
Consider approval of a plumber's license for Lake County Plumbing
-
Review information from the Western Area Power Administration, a major supplier of electricity to the municipal electric utility, about Madison's historical use and cost of electricity.
