City Sees drop in Electricty Usage

The City of Madison saw less electricity used this year. At Monday's Madison City Commission meeting, city finance officer Jeff Heiemeier reports a 12-percent drop in the amount of electricity used this year.

Heniemeier says a combination of mild weather and a decrease in industrial activity in Madison have been major factors in the usage drop.

Heinemeier says with the drop in usage, there was a drop in revenue from electricity sales. He also says that is also offset by a decrease in expenses.

The City is considering increases in the electric rates to offset a 13-percent increase in wholesale electricity costs from the Western Area Power Administration. The increase will be discussed at a future meeting.
