Madison and Howard Fire Departments Respond To Winfred Fire

Fire investigators are looking into the cause of a Monday blaze at A.H. Meyer & Sons, a beekeeping and wax plant in Winfred. Three people were sent to the hospital. One was taken to Madison by private vehicle, the other two later followed in an ambulance. No information is yet available on their conditions.
The Madison and Howard Fire Departments responded to the fire call Monday morning at 9:40. Madison Fire Chief Jerry Johnson said that due to an explosion inside of Wax Building Number two the firemen did not enter the building as they were unsure about the integrity of the structure, which was engulfed in flames when they arrived.
The fire burned itself out, and the Fire Marshall has been notified. It will be a couple days before investigators will be able to get into the building to find a cause for the explosion and the resulting fire.
