Another Identity Theft Scam

Another identity theft scam has surfaced in South Dakota in the form of fake jury duty calls.

Judith Roberts, Legal Council for the State Court Administrator’s Office says this is a new scam, but there was a similar spoof last year.

Roberts says the scammers are telling people they missed their jury duty, but it was a court system mistake, and they need information from the person to excuse them from the missed duty.

Roberts says court employees don’t need the personal information being requested by the scammers.

Roberts says if you are contacted by this type of scam, to call the Consumer Protection Division at 800-300-1986.
