Lake Co. Commissioners Hear $15 Million Sunset Harbor Proposal

The Lake County Board of Commissioners met in regular session yesterday morning at the Lake County Courthouse in Madison.

The board heard from Attorney Dick Ericsson, on behalf of Ted Thoms, who is interested in completing the Sunset Harbor Development on Lake Madison. Thoms purchased Sunset Harbor, which is located where the old Marrs Beach was. Thoms still needs to purchase a portion of land that is currently owned by the county. But first, the remaining 200 by 1300 feet of property that Thoms is looking to purchase must be declared surplus by the county. To sell, the county can either post the property with a realtor, or hold an auction. Thoms did announce to the board that he would be willing to pay 100% of the cost of the property, and is also prepared to pay all closing costs. Thoms expects the completion of the Sunset Harbor project to cost an estimated $15 million dollars and take about 4 years to complete. Over those 4 years he says 10 twin homes would be built and 30 new condominiums. The commissioners decided to hold discussions about the project, and address it at a later date.
