On Tuesday evening, both the 50th annual meeting of the Bethel Lutheran Home Corporation and the 22nd annual meeting of the Bethel Lutheran Home Foundation, Inc. were held in the Chapel/Activity Room of the main facility. Of the 84 voting members, 74 percent were in attendance, or 62 delegates, clergy and board members.

The 2009 opinion audit for Bethel Lutheran Home was reviewed by the auditing firm of Wohlenberg Ritzman, CPA, LLC. The administrator's report was given by Jim Iverson.

Six individuals were recognized for completing their governing board service: Charlotte Charles of Winfred, Lowell Hass of Chester, Mary Hefner of Wentworth, Beverly Langner of Madison, and Robert Todd of Wentworth. Elected onto the 19-member board of directors were Barb Acheson of Madison, Joyce Farr of Colton, the Rev. Wayne Meidinger of Colton, Dale Shumaker of Howard, and Sherry VanLiere of Wentworth. Re-elected for another three-year term were Joyce Dragseth of Nunda and Roger Johnson of Rutland.

The Bethel Home Foundation reviewed the 2009 fiscal report and will be receiving the 2009 compilation audit report in July.

Gary Johnson, development director, reviewed the highlights of the last year, which included the 13th annual Foundation Dinner event last June; the fourth annual Foundation Golf Tournament last August; and the implementation of credit card processing through the main website, www.bethelcommunity.com.

Last year, the delegates voted to proceed with the "Sharing & Caring" capital campaign, which began last fall. Progress reports were shared by the campaign co-chairs, Tom and Joyce Farrell of Madison.

Del Faye Sederstrom of Ramona and Ted Weiland of Madison were thanked and recognized for completing their second term on the Foundation board of directors. Jon Knuths and Wayne Pauli of Madison were elected onto the board by the voting members.

The Bethel Foundation has just finalized purchasing 8.3 acres of property located just west of the original Bethel site. In addition, the Foundation also entered into a one-year option agreement with the owner of the remaining property west to Union Avenue. A long-range planning retreat is scheduled for August, at which time members of the "publics" within the Bethel Community will meet and decide on the future direction of the 48-year-old ministry. Those "publics" include residents, families, board members, staff, pastors and individuals from congregations and the Madison community.

Both Bethel Lutheran Home and the Bethel Lutheran Home Foundation are owned and operated by 13 Lutheran congregations in and around the Madison area. Fifteen volunteers serve on the Foundation board and 19 on the governing board.
