Domestic Seed Honored by SDCIA

Domestic Seed and Supply was recently honored by the South Dakota Crop Improvement Association. Domestic Seed and Supply President Terry Schultz accepted the award last Wednesday at the South Dakota Ag Horizons Conference in Pierre.

Domestic Seed is a Madison-based seed growing company that have participated in the Certified Seed Program for the last 42 years.

Executive Director for the SDCIA, Neal Foster said the company’s honest hard work has led to them receiving the award. When Terry’s father Ray founded the company 42 years ago, it was a small-grain-only dealer. Now, the company has more than 200 dealers throughout the Midwest, offering row crop seed in addition to small-grain products.

Another milestone for Domestic was establishing a state of the art soybean seed-cleaning facility 11 years ago. The soybean-cleaning facility runs in conjunction with the rest of their seed-cleaning plant.

In, 1965, the business began participating in the Certified Seed Program. Then in 1978, Ray was named Premier Seed Grower.

Domestic Seed and Supply provides agronomy services to producers in South Dakota, Iowa, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Nebraska.

Domestic Seed has 40 full-time employees and a majority of their work is done within 150 miles of Madison according to Schultz.
