Thousands Arrested as Part of TIPs Program

In 1984, The Department of Game, Fish and Parks created a program to try and eliminate poaching. Now, 23 years later, thousands of poachers have been arrested and thousands of cases have been investigated. The TIPs program allows anyone to call and report a violation. Lake County Conservation Officer Brandon Gust says the TIPs program is in effect year-round.
Gust says the program is becoming more and more popular the longer it’s around.
In 2003, the TIPs program saw a spike in arrests made and rewards paid out. Following 518 investigations, 211 arrests were made that year and 85-hundred dollars worth of rewards paid out.
To report a violation concerned persons may dial 1-888-OVERBAG, or 1-888-683-7224. Reports can also be submitted online at sdgfp-dot-info.
