Lake Co SD Emergency Management Warns of Flooding
Posted on Tuesday, March 15, 2011
With temperatures staying above freezing over the next several days there is potential of heavy run-offs and continuous flow of water into streams and lakes causing possible flooding within the Lake County area.
Residents living near waterways will want to monitor the water levels especially late in the afternoons and evenings being watchful for ice jams as well.
If you encounter water going over the roads do not drive through it. The water force can be strong enough to cut large holes in the road, remove manholes or sweep you or your vehicle off the road.
Gravel roads are expected to be very soft from water saturation and extra caution is advised especially at night. Roads considered unsafe to travel on will be posted as closed.
If you encounter an area that has an ice jam, call the Lake County Communications center at 256-7620 to report the information.
