May 24th, 2011 will mark the last day for students for the 2010-2011 school year. It will also mark the last day for Madison Elementary teachers Delora Sims, Sonya Thayer, and Colleen Graff, who will have served a combined 112 years educating students.
All three women will retire at the end of this school year after having spent their careers educating and instructing various ages of elementary students in Madison, SD. Sims has taught for 37 years at Montrose, St. Thomas School, and Madison public schools in 14 different classrooms. Thayer has taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders here in Madison for 39 years. Graff has also taught in Madison for 36 years in three different buildings: Garfield, Washington, and Madison Elementary.
A retirement open house will be held in honor and recognition of Sims, Thayer, and Graff on Wednesday, May 11th, 2011 at the Madison Elementary School Library from 4:00PM to 7:00PM. Students and colleagues, both current and former, as well as parents and the community are welcome to attend.
