The South Dakota Board of Regents met in Madison yesterday. The Regents recognized student organizations at Dakota State University for their initiative and positive contributions to the community.

An award for academic excellence was given to the Phi Beta Lambda Business Club for bringing business and education together through innovative leadership and career development programs.

Fear the Turkey -- DSU’s Drama Club, received the community service award.

Students in Free Enterprise were the recipients of an award for organizational leadership for their ability to apply the knowledge they have learned in the classroom to projects the organization conducts in the community. The SIFE team is a new organization at Dakota State. They quickly became involved in a variety of projects, such as helping low-income families with their taxes, talking to local school students about financial literacy, and working with start-up businesses in marketing and business planning. The SIFE team from Dakota State won its regional competition last spring and competed at the national level, where the team earned “Rookie of the Year” honors.
