Light freezing drizzle may occur along the I90 corridor encompassing the Chamberlain to Mitchell vicinities...with snow accumulations of less than an inch in east central South Dakota.
Days two through seven...Saturday through Thursday
On Saturday...accumulating snow of 3 to 5 inches is possible around the Huron vicinity and east central South Dakota...with isolated amounts of 6 inches northwest of Huron. Amounts will then decrease extending east and south of that area. However...light freezing drizzle is possible ... especially in the morning...for many areas in southeast South Dakota ... southwest Minnesota and extreme northwest Iowa. In addition to the Precipitation ... winds will become northerly and increase to 20 to 35 mph. This could create areas of blowing snow north of Interstate 90.
Mild and dry weather today will be followed by wintry precipitation for Saturday as low pressure approaches rapidly from the southwest. The greatest winter weather threat will be in the northwest part of the area (including Huron), where a winter storm watch will be in effect from late tonight through Saturday afternoon. To the south, lesser snowfall amounts are expected where precipitation will begin as freezing drizzle. In portions of northwest Iowa and extreme southeastern South Dakota, snow will remain mixed with light rain, and should not accumulate.
