Advisory Message: Winter Weather Conditions Returning
Posted on Monday, February 20, 2012
Winter weather conditions will be returning to the area over night and for the next several days. Allow for extra time for traveling and expect rapidly changing road conditions.
With the temperatures hovering around the freezing point during this time it is possible that freezing rain and snow to cling to power lines and trees. This could cause some power outages with the winds that are expected. Visibility can be reduced during this time.
Currently 2-4 inches of snow accumulation can be expected for the Lake County area. Rain with this will cause hazardous road conditions. Make sure you have an emergency kit in your vehicles. Do NOT use your cruise control during this time and slow down to drive the road conditions.
Check the current road conditions for your route at http://www.safetravelusa.com/sd . Snow plows can be expected to be on the road but this will be after the worse has passed. If you come upon a snow plow don't crowd them. They will be traveling at a slow speed.
Keep an eye on the changing weather conditions by checking the National Weather Service website. NOAA weather radios can provide you with up to date weather conditions. Contact Information: Donald Thomson Lake County SD 605-256-7611 lakeema@lakecountysd.com
