Local Family Gets New Home

Christmas came a few days early for one Madison family this past weekend. The keys to a brand new home were handed over to Susan Nordaune and her son Brandon, during a dedication ceremony on Saturday. It was the latest home built by The East Central South Dakota chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Local Habitat board president Scott Parsley was on hand, along with chapter executive director Barbara Johnson, to present the home to Nordaune.

Many members of the community who helped make the home possible were honored by the seventy some people who attended the ceremony. Shawn Miller of Miller Construction was recognized for his service in building the home. Parsley estimated Miller donated 350 hours of his time to the project. Also recognized was Tracy Fox of Dakota State University. Fox recruited and organized the volunteers who constructed the home.

The house, which is located on south east 3rd street in Madison, is one of 42 built across the state by Habitat for Humanity this year. The groups goal for 2008, is to build 55 new homes in South Dakota
