Advisory: Winter Weather Watch in Effect for Lake County

Thursday is currently building to be a normal winter storm for the state of South Dakota. Current projection appears to have the storm moving more to the Southwest and Southern directions around Lake County, however it still looks as if 6 to 8 inches of snow will fall in the area.

This snowstorm is expected to cause blizzard like conditions for the entire area causing limited visibility and poor road conditions. Winds are expected to gust up to 30 mph with sustained winds of 15-20 mph.

No travel advisories can be expected on several roads, so check the road conditions before you travel. Road conditions can change within a short distance. Call 5-1-1 or visit www.safetravelusa.com/sd.

An additional front will be moving into the area again on Sunday or Monday of next week. It is not known at this time on how this storm will affect the area at this time. If you have travel arrangements during this time watch for changing weather condition at www.weather.gov/fsd.

Make sure you take precautions before traveling. Travel with a full tank of fuel, have a survival kit, contact others of your travel plans, turn your headlights on, and drive defensively.

If snowplows are out on the road allow them the extra space to work, use the slogan “Don’t Crowd the Plow”. They will be traveling slower. The roads ahead of the snowplows could be worse, so you may not want to pass them.
