Advisory: Weather and Expected Road Conditions for the weekend (March 7-10)
Posted on Wednesday, March 6, 2013
We are no longer in a situation in which the severity of a winter storm makes that much difference in relation to travel conditions. Several accidents have occurred over the past few weeks from relatively small amounts of rain or snow. The problem comes from rapidly changing conditions in which a small amount of precipitation has been freezing to the roads causing hazardous traveling conditions. Blowing snow at the same time reduces visibility and increases the dangers.
If you must travel, make sure you are aware of the road conditions of where you are as well as your destination. Double-check the weather to see where the snow or rain is falling. If possible, go around those areas.
Use primary roads, however, make sure you travel at a safe speed. You may be a good driver but you have to be aware of the other driver as well. It may rain during the day but once the sun starts to go down the temperatures will also drop causing untreated roads to ice up. This can happen within a short distance or time so be alert.
