It is estimated that we have received about 7-8 inches on the ground at this time. We can expect an additional 6 to 8 inches more over the next 24 hours. Wind will also be a factor over the next 24 hours.
If you encounter downed power lines, stay clear of them. This includes trying to remove tree branches from lines. Call your power company service provider if you see downed lines or have extended power outages. They are busy repairing down lines and may not be aware of outages in your area.
It is recommended that you wait until the storm passes before doing any cleanup from the storm.
Everyone should begin also looking towards the weekend. Rain is expected for Saturday with temperatures currently around 40 degrees. The snow on the ground will affect the temperatures where we may see freezing rains. This could result into a very similar situation in which Sioux Falls is currently going through.
After the weather clears out on Thursday, you may want to take some precautionary steps to prepare for possible power outages on Saturday evening into Sunday.
In addition you may want to may want to take some time to check your sump pumps and drainage systems around your homes. It is possible that temperatures will get back up to normal during the next 2 weeks. This could result into some flooding conditions around the area.
