Advisory: Flooding Potentials increasing as temperatures rise this weekend.

With the projected rise in temperatures for this weekend, Lake County can expect some flooding along waterways such as Battle Creek and Buffalo Creek. Water in Silver and Park Creek can also be expected to rise as the snow melts. There should be minimal ice jams that could block the flow of water.

Most flooding will occur late in the afternoon after the snow has had a chance to melt and the water accumulates. It is anticipated that gravel roads will experience most of the flooding.

If you encounter water over the road, do not attempt to drive through it. Turn around and go around. It is possible that since the ground is soft that roadways could be washed out.

Sump Pumps should be checked and drained to the outside away from the house foundations. Much of the frost is out of the ground so the water will penetrate into the ground. However, much of it is expected to run off.

Sandbags are available at Ace Hardware and at the City and County shops. No bags have been prefilled. Sand is available at the County Highway shop at 1001 SW 4th Street. Do not use salted sand.
