Governor Daugaard Declares Manufacturing Week

South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard issued an executive proclamation declaring September 30th - October 4th, 2013 as Manufacturing Week.

"Whereas, At the end of 2012, there were 1,112 manufacturing businesses in South Dakota providing 41,175 jobs. These manufacturers employ 10 percent of the state's workforce; and, Whereas, Manufacturing jobs have an average annual wage of $42,176, the majority of which offer benefits including health insurance, resulting in total payroll of $1.7 billion dollars that goes into the state's economy; and, Whereas, South Dakota manufacturers produce a wide diversity of products including machinery, food and beverage, fabricated metal, chemical products, computers and electronics, furniture, other wood products, plastic and rubber products, transportation equipment, and medical devices; and, Whereas, Manufacturers pay property taxes, sales and use taxes, and make contributions to local community organizations adding to the state's quality of life: Now, Therefore, I, Dennis Daugaard, Governor of the state of South Dakota, do hereby proclaim September 30 - October 4, 2013 as MANUFACTURING WEEK in South Dakota."
