At last night's city commission meeting, Madison City Commissioners approved the second reading of ordinances establishing the 2016 water, electric, and sewer rates for city residents.
During the first reading of the ordinances two weeks ago, Utilities Commissioner Jeremiah Corbin said that the base water rate for most standard residential customers will increase by two dollars a month, with the rate on additional meters for bulk accounts and multi-dwelling units also increasing by two dollars a month.
Commissioner Corbin said the increase on next year’s electric rates is lower than previous years noting a one-and-a-half percent increase for all classes.
City customers’ sewer rates for 2016 will increase as well. Corbin has said that the residential base will increase by $2.50 to a monthly charge of $12.50, and the commercial/industrial base will increase by 5-dollars to 25-dollars a month. The ordinance also includes an increase in the fee for services after first connection for multiple dwelling units in the city.
The rate changes and increases included in the ordinances go into effect beginning with city utility bills that are due in January of 2016.
